How UAE’s New Laws Will Protect Consumers by 2024

The UAE is marching into 2024, armed and refreshed with an array of new laws to protect consumers far better and make everyday activities much smoother. From the regulation of telemarketing to the introduction of a card that revolutionizes payment procedures, and even a unified visa for the Gulf region—these changes will drastically improve the quality of life for all residents and visitors.

          New Telemarketing Law

          Purpose and Effective Date

The law will come to effect from August 27, 2024, in the UAE. It seeks to tackle the perennial issue of intrusive telemarketing, which has for so long, caused many consumers a massive headache.

          Call Timing Controls

These calls will be limited only between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. By doing this, a more peaceful daily routine will be possible for consumers because they will not be unnecessarily bothered at inappropriate times.

          Restrictions on Sales Practice

A company will no longer be allowed to use hard-sell techniques or otherwise pressure a client during a cold call. The providing of misleading information and the utilizing of hard-sell techniques are also explicitly outlawed, which is purposed to ensure that there will be a more Gosforth and open communication between business enterprises and consumers.

          Benefits to the Consumer

There are changes that clearly give the consumer more control over the transactions with telemarketers. The new law stipulates what can be done and when, which attempts to reduce stress and frustration associated with unwanted sales pitches.

          Jaywan Payment Card

          Launch Date and Objectives

Come September 2024, banks around the UAE will start issuing the country’s first national domestic payment card, Jaywan, to streamline and secure payment processes across the country in one go.

          Adoption Rate and Compatibility

Before the end of August, over 90% of the POS terminals in the UAE would have the capacity to read the Jaywan card. This vast coverage will enable the consumer to use the card almost everywhere, thus providing ease and dependability for day-to-day transactions.

          Security Features

The enhanced Jaywan card comes with improved security features to avoid fraud or unauthorized transactions. These are measures aimed at increasing trust and confidence in the new payment system.

          Benefits to Consumers and Business

The Jaywan card offers consumers an easy and secure mode of purchasing goods, while for businesses, it offers an efficient and convenient mode of payment that will enhance consumer satisfaction and improve operational efficiency.

          Expansion of Salik Gates

          Operational Date

There will be an additional two operational Salik gates in the UAE by November 2024, although they are part of a larger strategy in managing the flow of traffic and the refinement of urban mobility.

          Distribution and Areas

The new Salik gates would be gradients across the city’s road network. The distribution will be towards lessening congestion in areas with high traffic and generally for the betterment of managing traffic at large. How this Will Impact Traffic and Public Transport

Introduction of the new Salik gates is expected to reduce the number of cars on the roads as drivers avoid paying extra charge by using public transport means. This can, in turn, contribute to reducing the number of vehicles on the road and improving the transportation system in a sustainable way.

          Benefits for Urban Mobility

These could be changes that would really enhance the experience of urban mobility and help residents move around the city more easily and reach their destinations faster.

GCC Unified Visa: GCC Grand Tours

          Expected Launch

Before the close of 2024, the GCC will launch the GCC Grand Tours visa. This unified Gulf tourist visa is intended to facilitate ease in traveling around the region.

          Purpose and Scope

The GCC Grand Tours visa is designed to ease tourism to a number of countries that the visitor intends to visit within the GCC. This step will increase better experiences among tourists and boost visitors to the region.

          Application Process

There will be an easy process in application for the GCC Grand Tours visa, hence easy for tourists to obtain documentation for travel.

Benefits to Tourists and the Economy

For tourists, this single visa accorded them smooth flow of travel without experiencing any complication as they move to other countries. On the side of the economy, the initiative is projected to grow the earnings from tourism in the cultural exchange within the region.

The new laws put in place by the UAE in 2024 are therefore a radical leap towards consumer protection and convenience. From ending nuisance telemarketing calls to introducing a more secure national payment card and navigating the city more smoothly with additional Salik gates, changes are implemented to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors. In addition, the GCC Grand Tours visa will enable tourists to more easily visit the Gulf region, fostering further tourism and economic development.
