Indian expatriates in the UAE will receive new chip-enabled electronic passports. This initiative is part of India’s Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0), which was rolled out by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai.

No Extra Biometric Tests or Fee Changes

Contrary to earlier rumours, there are no additional biometric data collection requirements or increased fees for Indian expats renewing or applying for passports. The biometric data embedded in the new passports comes from recent photographs compliant with international standards.

How to Apply for the New Passport

Applicants must use the new GPSP 2.0 online portal, which allows digital submission of documents and reduces time spent at physical application centres. Minor corrections can be addressed without full reapplications.

Benefits of the New Passport System

The new e-passports enhance security with embedded microchips, making forgery and tampering more difficult. This system speeds up passport processing, promising issuance within 48 hours after full adoption. Current passports remain valid during the transition period.
