Space42 UAE government contract brings a new phase to the country’s satellite communication capabilities. The company signed a $5.1 billion agreement to provide vital communication services for the next 17 years, up to 2043. The deal covers the use of current satellites Al Yah 1 and Al Yah 2, plus the launch of two new ones, Al Yah 4 and Al Yah 5, expected in 2027 and 2028.

Long-Term Satellite Services

This contract replaces two earlier agreements set to expire by 2026 and combines satellite operations, maintenance, and technology management into one comprehensive deal. Space42 will receive an advance payment of $1 billion to develop the new satellites. These satellites will support government communications across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Advanced Satellite Technology

The new satellites will be built on the Airbus Eurostar Neo platform and feature flexible multi-band payloads. Space42 has hired Airbus for satellite construction and SpaceX for launching them with reliable Falcon 9 rockets. The total cost for the new satellites and supporting infrastructure will be around $1.1 billion.

Strategic Importance

Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Yahsat Space Services at Space42, said this contract shows the ongoing trust the UAE government has in their technology. The new satellites will help Space42 meet evolving government needs more efficiently and securely. Space42 remains a key player in expanding the UAE’s space technology and secure communication services.

Financial Strength and Growth

The Space42 UAE government contract contributes significantly to Space42’s strong financial position, making up a large part of its $7.1 billion backlog of contracted revenues. This long-term visibility provides stability and resources for future innovation and service expansion. The commitment demonstrates the UAE government’s focus on sustained digital infrastructure growth and technological leadership in the region.

This contract marks a major step for Space42 and the UAE to maintain leadership in satellite technology and ensure secure, uninterrupted connectivity for government projects in the coming decades
