With the global spread of COVID-19, many people needed to stay at home, and several employers encouraged remote work to become a new practice among different corporations. Even so, after the first moment of the world crisis, the Home Office has become a new lifestyle, full of unique challenges and, above all, demanding an extra dose of dedication on the part of those involved. For this reason, now follow some changes in habits that can turn your work at home into a real success.

Check out our complete guide with the main tips that will help you to have a more productive routine during your home office.

Keep a regular schedule

It is essential for you to have clear guidelines on when to start work and end your day. This is a strategy that helps many individuals to maintain the maximum balance between professional and personal life. So, set a schedule and try to stick to it, even if it seems tempting to circumvent the system. The reality is that one of the main benefits of the home office is precisely its flexibility and, at times, you may be tempted to wake up a little later than usual or even to extend the day to fit other people’s schedules.

However, ideally, you should be able to compensate for these changes, just as you would in an office. Started later? Keep working a little longer. Did you stay longer after hours? Finish early the next day. Keep this periodic.

Make sure your home office is a dedicated and private space

The distractions of family, pets, and televisions can hamper your productivity. Have you ever participated in a conference call from home and your dog barks or your children interrupt you? It’s embarrassing and hampers the productivity of the entire team involved.

For these reasons, if you work from home, a private office is a must. You should install the home office in the quietest part of your home, which is away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If a private office isn’t possible, consider purchasing a room divider or shoji screen to eliminate distractions in your home. Make sure family members respect your private time by using a visual cue, such as a “Do Not Disturb” sign, especially when participating in audio and video calls.

Respect your breaks

Regardless of whether you are working for a company or on your own, you must keep in mind that breaks during the Home Office period are essential. So, take a moment during the day to get away from the computer and also the phone – yes, let go of your cell phone for a few moments! Ideally, you should be able to take two breaks with an average of fifteen minutes each, at times when you feel you are a little more exhausted or without concentration.

This breath will invigorate your mind with functions that can overwhelm you and help your body relax for a while. Also, be faithful to your moment of rest and respect each one of them, especially your lunch hour. Avoid eating and keep checking messages in the company group. Place a series, read or even taste your food. Have a decent time with yourself.

Don’t be so hard on yourself

When you work from home or work for yourself, there will be days when your schedule will go down the drain, your to-do list will fall by the wayside, and you’ll end up on the couch for most of the day, good because you feel bad, or because an unforeseen event arises. It’s okay! Sometimes a day off is needed, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re not productive or working at your peak 100% of the time. Simply feel or take advantage of enjoying that moment, regain strength, and the next day returns to your defined workday structure that you had scheduled to try again.

Create a Motivation Board

Last but not least, if you’ve been working from home for a long time, it can eventually get boring and uninspiring. You may even have difficulty enjoying your work as before. A Vision Board is a board that you can use to write notes and post pictures of your dreams and aspirations. The aspect of visualizing what you want is a great mental exercise and it is also very powerful.

Obviously, you won’t magically reach your goals simply by looking at the board. When you do that board, you should also develop an action plan to get to what you want. The board is to look at it and remind yourself of what you want, where you want to go, why you started, and where you want to end. Create a board with both personal and professional goals and aspirations and look at it every day. Working at home should bring you closer to those goals, not away from them.
