A Massive Economic Boost

Dubai: Every time you use Google Search to find a deal, Maps to dodge traffic, or Gemini AI to tackle your to-do list, you’re contributing to a massive economic story. In 2024, Google’s tools and services pumped an impressive Dh21.8 billion (over $5.9 billion) into the UAE’s economy, according to the latest Google Economic Impact Report by research firm Public First. The report shows how deeply Google’s products are woven into daily life, helping people save time and businesses grow faster.

The bulk of this economic boost—Dh20.2 billion—came from businesses using Google Search and Ads to connect with customers. “We’re incredibly proud to be a partner in the UAE’s boundless ambitions,” said Anthony Nakache, Managing Director for Google in the Middle East & North Africa. This impact reflects the UAE’s push toward a tech-driven, diversified economy under its Vision 2031.

Everyday Value for UAE Residents

Google’s tools make life easier for UAE residents, delivering an estimated AED 683 in monthly value per person. The report highlights how:

  • 89% of people use Maps or Waze to navigate, avoiding traffic jams.
  • 90% say Google Pay simplifies mobile payments.
  • 63% have tried Gemini AI, with 71% finding it more user-friendly in Arabic than other AI tools.
  • 50% of adults consider Google Search essential to their daily routine.

From checking restaurant reviews to paying at checkout, Google’s services streamline everyday tasks. For younger users, particularly those aged 18–24, 73% browse or shop weekly using Google Search, showing its role in shaping consumer habits.

Powering Business Growth

Businesses, both large and small, are thriving thanks to Google’s tools. The report notes:

  • 94% of UAE adults use Google Search monthly to compare prices.
  • 86% check Google reviews before visiting a business.
  • 80% of local businesses rely on Maps or Waze to attract customers.
  • 91% of companies now use at least one AI tool in their operations.

These tools help businesses reach new customers and operate more efficiently, contributing Dh20.2 billion to the economy. For example, small retailers and restaurants use Google Ads to target local shoppers, while larger firms leverage AI to streamline processes. Even government workers report 97% improved productivity using Google’s AI tools.

Jobs, Skills, and Creators

Google’s impact goes beyond convenience, fostering job creation and skill development:

  • The Android and Google Play ecosystem supported 30,000 jobs in 2024, with developers earning AED 455 million in revenue.
  • Through the Maharat Min Google program, over 430,000 UAE residents have gained digital and AI skills since 2018.
  • YouTube creators are flourishing, with over 600 UAE-based channels now having more than a million subscribers, a 15% increase from 2023.

These efforts align with the UAE’s goal to build a skilled, tech-savvy workforce and a vibrant digital economy.

AI and the Future: A Dh298 Billion Opportunity

Looking ahead, the report projects that Generative AI could add AED 298 billion to the UAE’s economy by 2030, equivalent to 19% of its Gross Value Added (GVA). This potential underscores the UAE’s strategic focus on AI as part of its Vision 2031, which aims for a diversified, non-oil-based economy. However, 78% of UAE adults are not yet fully utilizing AI tools, suggesting room for growth through education and adoption.

The UAE’s broader economic context supports this trajectory. The International Monetary Fund estimates 4% real GDP growth in 2024, driven by investment and non-oil sector growth. Google’s tools are well-positioned to support this momentum.

Google’s Long-Term Commitment

As the UAE advances toward a smarter, AI-powered economy, Google is committed to being a long-term partner. Through investments in technology, training, and infrastructure, the company aims to support the UAE’s digital transformation. “Our AI-powered tools are transforming how people live and work, driving macroeconomic growth,” Nakache told .

Next time you use Google to find a café, pay for coffee, or learn a new skill, know that you’re part of a Dh21.8 billion economic engine powering the UAE’s future.
